Put The Right Clothes On!

picture-28Chapel 4.21.09

Every morning I walk into my closet I have options. Warm clothes, work clothes, church clothes, summer clothes, and clothes I don’t even wear that need to be given away. And every day I try to find something I’ll “look good” in for that day.

Paul reminds us in Colossians to put on a different kind of clothes. And we should be doing this daily. What are these clothes?

Colossians 3:12 says “Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience.”

I shouldn’t worry so much about the clothes that are hanging in my closet. Instead, I can see that my day would be totally different if I were more concerned about intentionally clothing myself with the attitudes & thoughts of God. It’s a conscious decision to clothe myself with a Christ-like persona.

I wonder if people are really that concerned with the clothes in my closet that end up on my back? Or if they really just want to see a kind and loving person?

Join me today in putting the right kind of clothes on, and hopefully others will notice Christ shining through us.

“And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.” 3:14

    This is great!
I was also humbled by Vicki Dees’ comment Sunday morning concerning this. In her “post-chemo” state, she decided that getting up and getting her outward appearance made up every day was futile so she instead spends that time putting on the full armour of God. She quoted Ephesians 6:14-17 and started with the belt of truth, which is that she has uncurable cancer.
When her husband was having a rough day, she reminded him that he was going to have to get up every day and get dressed with the armour of God if he was going to make it through this.
What a testimony, in light of what we need to “put on” each morning.
